SXSW Asia x Austin 2026: Central Texas Is Building a Global Launchpad
At the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce Asia x Austin SXSW event, we really enjoyed learning how much of a powerhouse Central Texas is! Being together with our fellow Philippine American Chamber of Commerce-Texas community felt so good—meeting folks from all over Texas and beyond.
The scale of economic development in Central Texas is staggering. We aren't just growing—we're building a global launchpad.
Economic Development & Infrastructure in Texas
Texas isn't slowing down. As the second largest state by population and the largest U.S. exporter, the economic engine here is running full speed.
$22 Billion in Development
The Development Corporation is laser-focused on job creation with serious capital behind it.
Aerospace Investment
SpaceX's goal of 1,000 Starships per year is driving an entire ecosystem—with significant Department of Defense investment backing the push toward Mars.
Central Texas & Bastrop: The Ripple Effect
With the World Cup coming to Houston and Dallas, and global supply chains following major industry, Central Texas—Bastrop in particular—is positioned for growth. The region has water, a rural setting, and the Lost Pines Forest. Suppliers are expected to follow the momentum, creating a ripple effect throughout the area.
Board economists are also building international relationships in workforce education and economic development. The bridge between Austin and Asia has never been stronger. A standout example: Cedar Park brought in a Korean bank specifically to support Asian business growth in the North Austin area.
The objective is for the ecosystem to be bold. Use prototypes to drive progress.
The Global Venture Landscape
Where Are the Real Returns?
Phoebe Wang, who has managed $2 billion and advised five different funds, shared her approach to finding opportunity across cultures. Her focus: international business and founders from diverse backgrounds.
"Remove bias from pitch decks."

AI & The Rise of the "Indepreneur"
One of the most compelling themes: the individual entrepreneur powered by AI agents. Solo founders can now leverage tools that were previously only accessible to well-funded teams.
$1B Seed Round in France
World AI raised a $1 billion seed round, signaling massive global confidence in the AI wave.
The Bay Area Advantage Is Over
Global access is the new standard. You don't need to be in Silicon Valley to build something world-class.
The Future of SaaS
A bold prediction: traditional SaaS companies will decline within 5 years. Access to tools will become universal. The differentiator? Building data that makes your product better for the customer. Implementation details—open source vs. AI-generated—matter less than making a significant tech impact.
Costs are expected to go down as technology becomes readily available. The question isn't access—it's what you do with it.
Globalization Pitfalls to Watch
Product-Market Fit First
Don't expand internationally without it. Nail the fundamentals.
Plan for Decreasing Capital
Have a strategy for when funding tightens—not just when it flows.
Always Have a Plan B
Your marketing roadmap needs a backup. Monitor the speed of market movement.
Brand Strategy & The Power of Proprietary Language
The "M" Framework
Rob shared a framework for brand execution built on two pillars:
Movement
Define the messages and the medium. What are you saying, and where?
Massive Action Plan
Drive execution and momentum. Strategy without action is just a deck.
Chris Do on Building a Strong Brand
Chris Do delivered some of the sharpest insights of the day on brand identity and differentiation.
"Strong brands have proprietary language."
— Chris Do
Think about Starbucks: they make people use their language—Tall, Grande, Venti. That secret language makes things more you. It creates belonging and differentiation at the same time.
His advice on titles and positioning: Take a big idea and make it easy to understand. He calls himself a "Brand Mother" instead of a brand strategist. What's the title to your TED Talk? If you can answer that, you've found your positioning.
Create Your Own Language
Like Starbucks drink sizes, proprietary language makes people use your words—and that makes things undeniably yours.
What You Wear Is a Tool
Your appearance can be a conversation piece, promote human connection, and make you recognizable. Brand isn't just digital.
The Takeaway
SXSW Asia x Austin made one thing clear: the playing field is leveling. AI is empowering individual entrepreneurs, global access is replacing geographic advantage, and the brands that win will be the ones that create their own language and take massive action.
We left excited about what our community is building. Whether you're growing in Bastrop or Bangkok, the opportunity is the same—and the question is whether you're bold enough to take it. This is definitely a must-go conference in the future.
